Laura is the founder of ONCA, an arts and research space in Brighton. ONCA supports the wellbeing of people and places by increasing awareness of, and engagement with, environmental and social challenges. ONCA, since its foundation in 2012, has encouraged artists to ask big questions about art and the role of art in our changing times. Alongside ONCA, Laura has been working for Bolivian animal welfare charity Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi, caring for animals rescued from the exotic wildlife trade. The friendships she formed with the animals in Bolivia are what inspired her to explore, at ONCA and beyond, how to tell stories about environmental crises. She is currently researching her PhD at the University of Hertfordshire, in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She is asking whether the form of the arts venue is fit for purpose within the context of climate change, and if not, how it can best be adapted.
