The new GroundWork Gallery in King’s Lynn has won this year’s Nick Reeves Award, awarded annually by CCANW and CIWEM’s Arts and Environment Network. Special Commendations were also given to artists Hanna Tuulikki and Tony Foster.
Overlooking the River Purfleet, GroundWork’s building had stood empty for 20 years before being purchased in 2013. Following several years of complex negotiations with heritage and planning authorities, it opened in July 2016 with an exhibition which celebrated the friendship between Richard Long (winner of the Award in 2012) and the late Roger Ackling. Its Director, Veronica Sekules, best known for her long career at the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts, has a long interest in environmentalism and formerly worked for Friends of the Earth. Their programme will continue to focus on artists who engage with the environment and a next exhibition ‘Fire and Ice’ opens on 14 October. Press: email@example.com
